Evol.

So as this is my second article, I felt that doing an archetype that people are unsure about or doubt would be a good one to talk about. So I chose this archetype to talk to you about. This week I'm going to be talking about the archetype Evol. So with this in mind, let's begin.

This archetype is a well known archetype that includes both reptiles and dinosaur type monsters and is generally based around the theory of Evolution. A lot of people seem to doubt this deck and it's competitiveness, and I can understand why, but I feel the deck really does have potential.

With the deck based around the smaller reptile type monsters and the larger Evolsaur monsters, it really does give room for potential. The way the deck works, is you use the reptile type monsters known as Evoltiles to bring out the larger Evolsaur monsters from your deck. One of the basic moves that can be made is to flip Evoltile Westlo face up and special summon one Evolsaur monsters from your deck to the field; by doing this you then have the option to summon any Evolsaur monster from your deck, the most typical move that can be made is to summon Evolsaur Diplo and destroy a spell/trap that your opponant controls. This makes room for normal summon of a level 4 Evolsaur monsters in order to XYZ into what is known as Evolzar, which is a Dragon type monsters. There are three of these, Evolzar Laggia, Evolzar Dolkka and Evolzar Solda. Dolkka and Laggia are both known very well due to their huge contribution in the Dino-Rabbit deck, before Rescue Rabbit got hit by the ban list and limited to one. Where as Solda didn't really make an appearance in many other decks, and there for isn't as well know as Dolkka and Laggian for appearing in other decks but is well known for it's appearance in it's own archetype. Not too long ago, Evols gained a support card that goes by the name Evol-Singularity. This card allows more competitiveness to run through the heart of the deck and gives them more of a chance to strive to win. It's a trap card, and allows you to summon any Evolzar monster from your extra deck to the field and then attach an Evoltile and a Evolsaur monster to it has XYZ material. A lot of people do get mixed up by this trap and assume that it allows you to special summon an Evoltile and Evolsaur monster to the field from the grave and then XYZ summon immediately after. People even think that the monsters that are going to be the XYZ material need to be the correct levels and type for the XYZ monster. This is not the case. What's actually happening is, Evol-Singularity Special summons an Evolzar to the field then you attach an Evoltile and a Evolsaur monster to it as XYZ material. So when your opponent attempts to bottomless trap hole your Evolsaur when you put it on the field to be attached, they are completely incorrect and have now given you an advantage over them by knowing what one of their set cards are. Also, if your opponent attempts to Solemn Warning your Evolzar, then they are also wrong, they would need to negate the card that special summoned him. It's a bit like a fusion summon, you need to negate the fusion spell not the monster itself.

The best combinations that the deck can make do revolve around your weaker Evoltile monsters. They are the key to you winning the duel you're in. Here are a couple simple ones that make the deck competitive.

~ Normal summon Evoltile Najasho. Activate Evo-Force. Tribute Najasho. Special Summon a Evolsaur Diplo, for Evo-Force then special another Diplo for Evoltile Najasho. This then leads to you popping two of your opponents backrow and being able to go into Dolkka or Laggia, or any other Rank 4.
~ As mentioned earlier: Flip Summon Evoltile Westlo, special summon an Evolsaur from your deck to the field, then normal summon an Evolsaur and go into a Rank 4.
~ Also as mentioned earlier: Activate Evol-Singularity and Special summon Laggia, Dolkka or Solda ans attach an Evoltile and Evolsaur to it as XYZ material.

These three combinations are three of the easiest ones in the deck, also three of the most used ones in the deck. I have personally done each of these many a time and it's just as fun everytime.

A lot of people can be easily confused by some of the combinations the deck has to offer such as the Najasho/Evo-Froce/Diplo/Vulcano combination. Some people feel that some of these cards miss their timing when in actual fact, that isn't the case at all, what actually happens is the following;

Chain no. 1:
Chain Link 1: Activation of Evo-Force tributing Najasho as a cost. The effect of the card resolves special summoning Diplo.

Chain no. 2:
Chain Link 1: Diplo's effect. (because it's a mandatory one) It resolves by targeting and destroying one S/T card my opponent controls.
Chain Link 2: Najasho effect triggers. It resolves, special summoning let's say Vulcano.

Chain no. 3:
Chain Link 1: Vulcano's effect triggers and resolves by targeting and special summoning one Evolsaur from my graveyard.

So those of whom think that Diplo or Najasho miss the timing are wrong. This is what will happen every time.

Moving on from that, I feel that a rather popular card that seems to be making it's way into most decks at the moment is Soul Charge, and I find this card should do so rightfully. I think this card is a great card to go in Evol decks because it speeds up the deck late game, when it runs out of resources in grind game. It can allow for a one turn summon of Dolkka and Laggia, and a possibly third rank 4, if you have a level 4 in your hand and still have a free normal summon. However, if it's late game, you might not feel like losing 5000 life points, or you might not have that much of your life points left and can only going into one rank 4, but it is still helpful none the less. Another really good card for the deck is Enemy Controller. It works so well with Evoltile Najasho and will give you one of your opponents monsters as well as one of your own from your deck. Meaning the possiblity for a rank 4 XYZ summon that turn is higher. Also, because it is a quick play spell this means it can be used on your opponents turn, making this card twice as good. Now, I think what really makes this deck, if Evolsaur Vulcano, which is just an amazing card. If you use the effect of Najasho or Westlo and go into Vulcano late game, you can summon an Evolsaur from your grave and go into a rank 4. As when it is summoned by the effect of an Evoltile monster, it will allow you to special summon a Evolsaur from your graveyard to the field.

I do hate it when people looks at this deck and then discard it because it isn't considered Tier 1 or something like that. I think a lot of people would be surprised at what you can do with a deck if you take enough time and effort and put it into your deck. I have beaten some of the best duellists I know with Evols. I used this deck for a very long time, so I know it has potential.

Thanks for reading.
